About the Camp

This one-week session puts girls behind the camera lens! They'll learn to express their unique perspectives through the art and craft of visual narrative.

At a time when everyone is a “photographer”, girls will examine the intersection of large-scale behavioral trends and how they imagine ourselves in their midst, and ultimately how they can shape their own personal narrative. Through lively discussions about stories photos tell, perceptions and biases, they'll develop critical media literacy, which will translates into the savvy to counteract stereotypical images in their own work.

Through interactive sessions with professional photographers, field trips, and photo assignments, girls will explore the use of light, composition, the decisive moment, contextualizing an isolated fragment of time, editing and sequencing photos, examining bias, voice and interpretation to create powerful narratives.

The course does not require any special equipment. For students who do not have digital or cell phone cameras, please indicate this in the camp registration form.

On the last day of camp, June 14, 2:30PM - 3:30PM, there will be a photo exhibit for parents and community for girls to showcase their creations.
